How is this happening? Well, B1 is water soluble, but the amounts that you get are so minute, so in reality you never absorb and accumulate enough. Over time you can develop a deficiency that creates dysfunctions and those dysfunctions can occur in your brain, muscles, heart and kidneys. Some food sources that contain B1 are meats, legumes, grains, nuts, and cereals but most of these foods are still deficient so they fortify or add B1 to it. However, even if they add additional B1 it tends to not be enough. Quick solution to improve nerve problems heart, liver, kidneys, and digestion problems, is to get a fat soluble B1 (Benfotiamine). You can't take too much, but you can take too little. If you have a deficiency you're gonna have to take higher amounts for a little while to correct it.
